Akagera Ikizere Lot 2 is a coffee from Akagera, in northeastern Rwanda, produced by 31 smallholder women farmers from the Ikizere group. We have worked with this coffee before, but in this harvest the profile gained even more depth thanks to the extended anaerobic fermentation in the natural process. Roasted very light for filter brewing, it delivers an intense and creamy cup with notes of blackberry, maple syrup, and strawberries and cream. The Red Bourbon variety, combined with the experimental processing, preserves its distinctive red fruit profile while adding more texture, sweetness, and complexity. A coffee that expresses both the potential of the Akagera region, which is still relatively uncommon for coffee production.
